Karina CooperCan you introduce yourself to my readers a little?
My name is Karina Cooper, and I’m the award-winning author of historical urban fantasy, paranormal romance and other genres that don’t quite fit into any one. When I’m not authoring stories, I’m geeking out on any number of hobbies—that all tend to revolve around storytelling, now that I think about it. It is a pleasure to meet you all!

Can you introduce us to the world(s) that you have created?
The St. Croix Chronicles (Tarnished) is a steampunk-flavored historical romp through a re-imagined Victorian London. It features an heiress turned bounty hunter, drawn into various mysteries and murders. All while trying to earn the coin to fuel a laudanum addiction. Each book is another wild misadventure leading Cherry St. Croix down the rabbit hole of magic, alchemy, monsters and more.

In my Dark Mission series (Blood of the Wicked), I introduce a world set fifty years after the cataclysms that destroy Seattle. A religious sect rose to prominence int he wake of the disasters, and a holy order of witch-hunters were set loose on anyone deemed “different”. As the city of New Seattle rocks under the weight of a war between witches and witch-hunters, old secrets and ugly truths redraw the battle lines. Enemies become lovers, families are split, and there’s no telling what’s good anymore… or what is evil.

Will this be your first RT or are you a veteran? Any advice for those who are going for the first time?
This is my third time going, and if I have any advice for new arrivals, it’s this: make time for yourself to relax. It’s easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of activity, but this is five days straight in the madhouse, and your brain—especially if you’re a typical writer sort—will overload. Make sure to take an hour now and again to find a quiet place, or take a nap, or do something to refresh your energy sources.

Are you speaking on any panels during RT? Are there any you are looking forward to or are planning on attending?
I’ll be speaking on several panels throughout the course of the event, and you can find a complete listing here: https://www.rtconvention.com/person/karina-cooper

Aside from official panels and parties, I’ll also be at the bar pretty frequently, as I like to give impromptu panels and/or sidekick sessions about whatever topics come up. In fact, on Tuesday night, we’ll be holding a kiki! What is a kiki, you ask? I’m glad you did: http://www.karinacooper.com/blog/rt14-meetup-lets-have-a-kiki

Is there anything in particular you’re looking forward to or experiencing while in New Orleans?
Um… everything! I’ve never been to New Orleans, so I’m super glad to be going. It’s going to be an adventure!

If someone were wanting to meet up with you at RT, who should they look for?
Crazy high heel shoes, hair colored a crazy shade, and a crooked smile! I can’t say what color my hair will be by then (because I don’t know!), but you can follow me on twitter to keep tabs on that—I’ll post a picture right before the con. When all else fails, just shout, “bangarang!” out loud, and if I hear it, I’ll shout back.
